PM HUN MANET URGES ASEAN CHAIR TO INTERVENE AMID ESCALATING CAM-THAI BORDER TENSIONS

September 18, 2025 – Cambodia’s Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet held an urgent phone call on Thursday evening with Malaysian Prime Minister and ASEAN Chair Anwar Ibrahim, to address escalating tensions along the Cambodian-Thai border.

The discussion focused on the worsening situation in Prey Chan village, O' Bei Chorn commune, O' Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, where recent clashes between Thai armed forces and Cambodian civilians have resulted in numerous injuries on the Cambodian side.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook and Telegram channels, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed concern over the recent hostilities and their impact on civilians.

Given the instability of the situation, Samdech Thipadei called on Prime Minister Anwar to intervene promptly to help neutralize tensions and prevent any further escalation. Manet emphasized the importance of maintaining the status quo on the ground, halting the installation of additional barbed wire, and avoiding any actions that could aggravate the conflict.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also reaffirmed Cambodia’s position that the border issue should be resolved peacefully through the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), based on the agreement made during the General Border Committee (GBC) special meeting on September 10, 2025.

The Cambodian government continues to urge restraint, dialogue, and adherence to diplomatic mechanisms to peacefully resolve territorial disputes and preserve regional stability.
